My Resolutions for 2009

I am the first counselor in my Ward's Relief Society, which means I'm the "Education Counselor". One of my responsibilities is to oversee the teachers. I just lost my fourth sunday teacher since she's moving, and I was so sad to hear it. But...the lesson must go on so I took over for this month until we get a replacement. Well this month's 4th Sunday lesson came from Gordon B. Hinckley's talk, "Slow to Anger".

Fitting since I do have a bit of a temper.

Anyway, one of the ways to curb a temper and reduce your anger is to replace it with encouragement or finding things to be grateful for. I usually have a pretty good reign on my temper when at work, but can easily blow up at family or friends. I hate that. I want to stop it.

But wanting to change my behvaior is not enough. There are a lot of things I want to do this upcoming year and continue for the rest of my life. I must say that teaching that lesson really brought to mind what I have and what I'm severely lacking.

Basically I need to follow the old adage...practice what you preach. And since it is the time of year to make New Year's resolutions I've decided on a few to work on for 2009. And...I'm telling you all this so that I'm accountable. I can't get out of it if other people know. So here it goes:

1) I will control my temper with family and friends. And by "control" I mean stopping before I start yelling, using a nicer tone when frustrated and not jumping to conclusions. And by "family" I just mean my husband since I am the worst to him. And by "friends" I mean those who really upset me on a regular basis. (The rest of you are fine!) :)

2) I will lose weight in 2009. Why this common resolution? Because I am over weight, it's not healthy and most importantly...my High School reunion is in 2010 and I am NOT showing up looking the way I am! Plus, I need to be super fit for Disneyworld 2010!!!!!!

3) I will have a house by the end of 2009. We love where we're living at....we hate paying rent. It feels like you're throwing away your money since the home will never be yours! I want to find somewhere to live that will be ours, that I can re-do and touch up and all that stuff. I want a yard so I can have a dog! I want lots of rooms so I can have all my friends visit any time. I want an at-home-theater since i cannot live without my movies! I probably won't be able to get all of that by the end of 2009....especially the way the econonmy is headed...but I can at least get a home.

4) I will graduate in December with my masters. I've been going back and forth about this goal for a while. I have the option to graduate in 2010...and it's tempting since I wouldn't have to stress, I could take my time, so on and so on. But...I've decided that December of 2009 is best for me. So I have to work hard, I'm no stranger to that. So I don't have the money, I'm no stranger to that either! It'll work out.

I hope all of you come up with your own resolutions and publicize them so that you're accountable! Hopefully I have a post in December saying that I accomplished all of this! :)

Winterball 2008

Rabici and I chaperoned my school's Winterball this year.
It was at Kualoa Ranch but thankfully we were indoors
instead of out in the rain. The food was ono (delicious for
you non-locals) and the music was good. The only junk
thing was my allergies. They kept making me sneeze
and have watery eyes!

On November 21st I was inducted into the Golden Key International Honour Society. There was a banquet and a ceremony at U.H. that my family and I went to. For those of you who don't know what Golden Key is, it's basically an Honor Society that is by invitation only for academic achievement. The good thing about being a member is that I'll have free job placement and scholarship monies to finish school.

My family came out to support me at the induction and these are just some pictures we took while there. It was fun to celebrate with them and others who were inducted that day. I looked up the society on the web (http://www.goldenkey.org/) and found out more about it. They've had members such as Desmond Tutu, Bill Clinton, and many others. Anyway, it was fun and here are some pics!

So, we were sitting at table five apparently

These are awards Golden Key has recieved from doing active community work and helping members succeed in school and future jobs.

Tagged by Lia

Okay, so according to this tag I'm supposed to choose the 6th picture in the 6th folder and the 4th picture in my 4th folder, post it, and embarass myself about what I have on this laptop.
(I added the last part)

Okay, so here's the 6th picture in the 6th folder

This is a picture of me and my mom at my awards ceremony. I was accepted into Golden Key International Honour Society that I'll go into more detail in a later post. Anyway, it's me and my mommy!

Here's the 4th picture in the 4th folder

This is a picture of me, with my long hair, at Disneyland. We got the wheel chair for my dad and he was using the bathroom. I decided to take advantage of that and take a break from the lines. Rabici decided to take advantage of this by taking my picture while I wasn't looking. Grrrr.

I tag...Nia, Kaytee, Jaici, Tia, Carol, and Elizabeth!
